The 3 step guide to playing

There's no need to read through all the pages on the site to begin playing. You can start playing with only a bare minimum of knowledge of the game. If you just want to watch what happens then you're welcome to do that too, you don't have to get stuck in right away.

Step 1 - Register

The entire game is run through a web board, it takes only a minute to register and is completely free. Once you have registered you can join a team and post on the board.

Step 2 - Say hi

On the Board is a forum called Team Applications. If you create a new topic in it saying who you are and how you want to play then the team leaders will reply offering you places on their team. If you favour massive armies then say so, if you favour covert operations then say that instead. This will give the team leaders an idea of how much you'll enjoy being on their team, if you want to lead armies then the covert type teams will know not to offer you a place.

Step 3 - Join a team

Someone will at some point accept you onto their team. When this happens you will be able to see a new forum on the board. This forum is visible only to your team and the GM. Ask the team leader what they want you to do and then take a look at the orders guide to see how to do it. Feel free to ask both your team mates and myself questions about what to do and how to do it.

This guide is short and light on game details because as I've said, you need very little knowledge to get involved and start playing.

Optional step 4 - The rules

The site is the game manual; it contains all the parts of the game that you need to know. World of Arl is however a big game, the site is not something you can generally read through in one sitting, the good news is that you don't need to read through all the rules to play. The rules are set out that you can find all the information on a given subject quickly.

Each page also has two parts; the normal part which explains how a rule works and what it's for and an advanced part for going into detail for those that really want to get into it. The advanced part is hidden by default but can be shown by clicking the "Show advanced rules" button on the top right of each page with advanced rules.
