Note: Sourcery will not be a part of the game just yet as it is not finished and with it being so easy to get it wrong, I wanted to ensure that I had it spot on before making it available. The rules are visible so that you can see roughly what to expect, the system is adapted from an RPG I was going to run at the start of 2008.

What is sourcery?

Sourcery allows you to create your own spells. These spells can be cast by any high tier mage in your nation. All sourcerous spells are created using a "component system". An example of 4 components are: "fireball" from Destruction, "move object" from Cognitive, "augment" and "catalyst" which are not from a specific lore. We will now see how to combine them and see what the spell can or will do (you don't have to use it in the most obvious way).

Fireball creates a ball of fire. Alone it's not much use, you could use it to set something within arms reach on fire but that's about it. Move object moves physical objects (as implied by the name). Fireball combined with Move object will allow you to move the Fireball, an example being to launch it at a target. Finally we have Augment and a Catalyst. Augment causes all base components (Fireball and Move object being the two here) to become more concentrated and powerful while Catalyst causes all reactions to happen faster, so the fire will burn faster but last longer (though it doesn't affect the Move object).

You can do more

If you have a lot of components you can add an order in which they do things, you can even add the same one more than once. For instance, having two Fireballs allows you to launch two fireballs. The problem there is that if you've only one Move object you can only launch one at a time. You may use as many components as you like but only the components from your tier and below.

Cost and time

Spells cost mana to cast, the cost is created by adding the number of components together and then adding 20% for every component added (5 components doubles the price). The mana cost is then rounded off to the nearest whole number. The casting time works works by adding all the cast times together but there is no multiplication to do afterwards.

Enchantment

Sourcery cannot currently be enchanted. At least not yet maybe later.
